Most Rev. Douglas J. Lucia received confirmation from an independent auditor that the Diocese of Syracuse has completed the 2024 - 2025 data collection required by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People.
Established in 2002, the Charter provides policies and procedures to prevent the sexual abuse of minors within the Church. It focuses on prevention, reconciliation, healing, accountability, training, and background screenings. The diocesan Offices of Safe Environment and Victim Assistance submit data for annual review, with an on-site audit every third year, the next scheduled for the Fall of 2026.
The Diocese of Syracuse reaffirms its steadfast commitment to upholding rigorous safeguards and protecting children, young people, and vulnerable adults. Its consistent compliance with Charter audits since 2003 reflects its enduring dedication to ensuring the safety and well-being of all within the Church.
